Who is Serious?

Cleveland, known by many as “Serious”,  came up through hip-hop community as part of the 80's group Serious Lee Fine.

He’s the kind of person who shows up quietly, gives without talking about it, and puts people first.
Family. Friends. Neighbors. Community.

He has always made space for others. Now he lives with advanced kidney disease.
This campaign, SeriousAboutLife,

is about one simple idea:
When someone who has given so much needs help, community steps up.

What does he need?

Cleveland is living with end-stage kidney disease, which means his kidneys can no longer keep him healthy on their own. Dialysis only slows the decline — it doesn’t give him the life or energy he deserves.

Good News: Any Blood Type Can Help “Serious” Get a Kidney

We recently learned any blood type can help him move closer to receiving a kidney. While B-negative or O-negative donors are the most likely direct matches, every person who steps forward can make a difference.

How Any Donor Can Help

Even if your blood type isn’t a direct match, you can still join the National Kidney Registry through Cleveland’s referral.
When you do this:

  • You may match with another patient who needs your blood type.

  • That patient’s paired donor would then donate a kidney on Cleveland’s behalf.

  • This creates a paired exchange chain, which moves Cleveland much closer to receiving his life-saving transplant.

What This Means

You don’t have to be B-negative or O-negative to help.
Any healthy person can begin the screening process and support Cleveland’s path to a transplant.

  • Type of donation: Living kidney donor

  • Donor costs: Medical costs for the donor are covered by insurance

  • Location: New York–area transplant center

Every donor who steps forward — no matter the blood type — brings Cleveland one step closer to the kidney he urgently needs.

How To Help

You don’t have to know Cleveland personally to save his life.
Here are three real ways to help right now:

Step 1

See if you might be a donor

Click the button below

to connect with the transplant team

and fill out a short form.
They will explain the process, answer questions, and see if you qualify.

Step 2

Share the Details

Not everyone can donate. But everyone can share.
Post the link, send a text, drop it in a group chat.

Somebody in your network might be a match.
It only takes one person.

The right match might be one share away.

Step 3

Spread
Awareness

Tell people his story.

Talk to your faith community.

Bring it to your
workplace or union.

Your voice matters.
